Jennie got married to Theodore Giatras when she was 16 years old. Because Theodore was Greek Orthodox, Jennie had to get baptized into his church before they could get married. When she got baptized in the Greek Orthodox church, she had to get a Greek name. That is when she became Thespina and kept the J. for her "middle" name. That is why in the second census we find her in, her name is Thespina J. Giatras instead of Jennie Thompson.
