Peter O. Thompson was born in Oland, Hjorring, Denmark, 11 April 1866. His parents were Ole Thomason and Mette Katrine Bertelsen, also born in Oland, Denmark.
Peter came to America alone in 1880 at the age of 18. He might have been a stowaway, since no records are found on any ship listing the family has searched.
He received his education in Utah and learned his trade as a plumber in Salt Lake City. He received further education from BYU, graduating in 1884.
Peter came to Rexburg and entered the business world as a young man. He was successful in this pursuit until he retired. He was one of the businessmen who weathered the financial storms. He struggled, worked, and went without to attain his goal.
In 1886, at the age of 20, he was a resident of Hyrum, Utah, but he accepted employment on a ranch in Montana that summer. There he met Ida Bertha Gerber who was doing housework and cooking for the men on the ranch. They became acquainted and did some courting while on the ranch. He also visited her several times in Rexburg, Idaho where she lived. After a three-year courtship, they were married on 20 November, 1890.
Peter lived in Rexburg from 1891 until 1928 during where time he was active in public affairs, giving his time freely to worthy enterprises. He was one of the organizers and stockholders in the Woodmen of the World business association. He served as clerk of the W. O. W. for 25 years. He was sentry in the head camp at Denver and attended nearly all of the camp meetings since he joined the lodge. The success of the Rexburg Camp was due largely to his efforts.
He later owned a business block on Main Street where he operated an up-to-date plumbing business starting in 1901. He was instrumental in helping to construct the first irrigation canals in Rexburg area. He owned his own home at 147 South First West. He was a homebuilder and valuable man of the community.
Peter Orlando had a sudden heart attack on 5 January 1928 at the age of 62. His son, Peter and Leland (Pump) kept in the pump and irrigation business, while Ralph had a business in the heating and air conditioning business on Main Street also. Frank also went into business in the sporting goods area of guns and fishing items, plus sharpening lawn mowers, and repairing bicycles, making keys, etc. Their stores were all on the north side of Main Street in Rexburg, Id.

History by Barbara Ann, granddaughter and daughter to Frank.
