Søn af Andrew Petersen og hustru Maude Elisabeth Mills.

Grandpa Petersen's Memorial Flag display case. Grandpa served in the Army during WWI. He was assigned to the 91st Division and the 346th Machine Gun battalion. The 91st Division was made up of men from the Northwest (California, Washington, Oregon, Nevada, Utah, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, and Alaska). A Pine tree patch worn on the shoulder of their uniforms stood for the Northwest. They were nicknamed,”The Wild West Division”. Grandpa also wore a button on his uniform collar of two crossed guns designating a Machine gun Battalion. The 91st Division fought in two major battles, the Battle of Saint-Mihiel and the Meuse–Argonne offensive.

Our Dad wrote in his journal of a story he remembers from Grandpa “He fought on the front lines both in France and Germany. He was part of a machine gun crew and was under heavy enemy fire many times. He told me the following story: During one of the battles he had to dive into a shell hole to escape enemy fire; he finally made his way back to his outfit but during this episode had lost his pocket watch. Several days later he again had to dive into a shell hole; unknown to him it was the same shell hole and there in the bottom was his lost pocket watch. Dad once mentioned he and some of his army companions were in a French town and were being shot at by the enemy. They returned fire and killed several people. He never elaborated on that and I never asked any questions. At the close of the war in 1918 he returned home to Park City.”

Klyde blev gift med Emma Tresea Thompson, datter af Carl Joseph Thomsen og Mariane Geertsen, den 22 Dec. 1924 i Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah. (Emma Tresea Thompson blev født den 12 Sep. 1897 i Park City, Summit, Utah, USA, døde den 7 Aug. 1987 i Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah og blev begravet i Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah.)
