Maybelle Rosalie Lewis

Maybell was the first child of Arthur and Rosalie Lewis. She was born in Salt Lake City, Utah 5-8-1888. At the time of her birth per parents were living in the 6th ard in Salk Lake Stake. Her father abuilt a litle house in a new area that waas called Poplar Grove. It was given that name because of the stately rows of Lombardy poplar trees that the early setlers had planted. Because she was born in May, her mother said she was a "Maybell" a name of a flower. When Maybell was 6 she went to school.It was a very nice building called "The WIntak School". She recieved her early schooling in this building. SHe had very good teacherss and all the students were required to work hard in order to get passing marks.After completing 6 years there, she furthered her education and finished 8th grade where she recieved her diploma. She sung with the Tabernacle Choir.

Maybell and Elise both had beautiful voices and would sing duets when invited to do so. Both were invited to be members of the Tabernacle Choir when Maybell was 19 and Elise 17. Evan Stephens was choir leader and John J. McClellan was organist.
