Generelle notater:
Mette’s first husband Peder Pedersen (1812-1862). m 1843 Mette’s second husband Niels Christian Christensen (1823-after 1903) m 1876 Neil’s first wife was Inger Magrethe Enevoldsdatter (1823-1874) and they were family friends of Peder and Mette as they were god parents to Peder and Mette’s youngest daughter. I was surprised years ago when I stumbled across Mette’s second husband. Even though Anders, my great grandfather (her son), did a great deal of genealogy work, he never listed Niels on a family group sheet; neither did his daughters Sophia or Helga, who were also active in recording genealogies and doing temple work. Anders and the remainder of his family finally arrived in the US in 1900, just two months after his mother, Mette, passed away from pneumonia. They lived with Step Father, Niels in Pleasant Grove in 1900, and for some reason, Niels Christen Christensen appears as “Nils Orem” in the 1900 census. I have done thorough research with conclusive evidence that Anders’ father-in-law referred to on the ship’s manifest, is Niels Christen Christensen. Niels and Mette had immigrated in 1891 bringing with them two of Ander’s children. In 1900 when Mette died, she and Niels were living in Manila Ward (Pleasant Grove, Utah). In 1903, Niels and his step-grandson, Jens, did temple work in the Salt Lake Temple for three days, where Niels was himself sealed to his first wife, Inger. Also in 1903, Neil’s ward records are moved from the Manila Ward to Pleasant Grove 1st ward. These are the last know written whereabouts for Neils that I can find as of 2017. (email me for my research on his death) or if you have additional information. Some years death records for the Pleasant Grove wards, Alpine Stake are missing.
Snippets in progress: Mette's mother was unmarried and she had a sister from the same father. Their father, Peder Larsen was with the cavalry. While her mother worked on a farm, Mette and her sister stayed with their grandmother, Maren Eilersdatter and her second husband. Then when she is 14 she is with an aunt, Else Eilersdatter. Else, was at Mette's christening (baptism) and is listed as her "Godmother." In 1843 she marries Peder Pedersen. In 1844 Ane Elise is born. The next child Peder Christian is born in 1884. Somewhere between 1845 and 1850, Ane Elise (age 2-6) goes to live with great Aunt, Else Eilersdatter and her husband Christen. From the story of the rest of her life, there must have been some reason that her young child went to live with "childless" relatives. It seems very likely to me that she may have had complications to a pregnancy which threatened her ability to care for her child. That is just my feeling. There is so much to the rest of her life. Her second child Peder Christian dies in 1858, at age 10 of drowning. Her husband, Peder, dies in 1862, leaving her a widow with 5 children still at home. In 1876 (14 years after Peder's death) she marries a family friend Niels Christian Christensen (who attended the christening of more than one of her children, along with his first wife, Inger. Inger passed away in 1874, leaving him a widower for 2 years. Her son, Anders, joins the LDS church with his wife in 1877 and moves away to Randers (quite a ways away), most likely to be in an area where there is work and also where there are more members of the church. Niels & Mette joined the LDS church in 1888 and emigrated to America in 1891, taking in tow, two grandchildren, children of Mettes son Anders, Oscar (age 10) & Emma Pauline (age 8). Niels leaves behind all of his children, none of them emigrated or joined with the LDS faith, as far as I can discover. Anders' children come one by one to America and he finally makes it to America in 1900, just 3 months after Mette passes away. Mette’s son, Jens Johannes, emigrates in 1897 and lives in the same area (Pleasant Grove) as Niels & Mette. Jens marries late in life, just prior to Mette's passing in 1900 and doesn't join with the LDS faith until 1903. Jens and his stepfather, Niels, seem to have had a good relationship as represented by their temple activity in 1903, where they travel to Salt Lake and do temple work for three days together with Jens wife, Marriane. Mette is buried in Pleasant Grove Cemetery but the exact location of the grave has been temporarily misplaced. The grave of record is not actually hers (entered by cemetery for computer sake) but it may also be under a different name. To be continued.
