Hun blev født den 12 juni 1861, døbt i rakkeby kirke den 13 juli 1862, datter af indsidder og tømrer Jens Christian Sørensen og hustru Maren Sophie Sørensdatter af Rakkeby. Moderen 35 år. I følge kirkebogen er barnets navn Mine.

Minnie Sørensen (Mine Jensen) was born in Rakkeby 11 jun 1861. Her mother Mary Sophia Sørenden, was converted to the Mormon Faith by Mormon Missionaries, and sometime between 1870-1873 with 3 of her sons and her daughter boarded a convert shii in Copenhagen, bound for the United States and Utah, Mary Sophia Sørensen was unable to speak English, but apparently had great faith in the promises of the Mormon Missionaries that the church would help her settle in the New country. Although Minies children never mentioned anything about relatives, MarySophias brother had Preceded her to the US so was probably influential in Mary Sophia's decision to come to the new world.
Acording to my mother, Mary Sophias husband drank heavily and that is why Mary Sophia had the Courage to leave him, take her children and sail for the USA
According to her daughter, Edna Henderson, her mother's name was Minnie and her Grandmother was Mary (Maren) Sophia Sørensen.
