Johannes Christian Boetius was born in Copenhagen to Johan Erik Wilhelm Boetius (1800-1869) and Olivia Clarentine Christine Haas (1805-1839). He was christened May 29, 1836, at Trinitatis.
In the 1840 census, when Johannes was four years old, he and his brothers lived with their father at Nørrebro No. 4 in Copenhagen. Their mother had died in 1839. Johannes' sister, Nanna, was living with Vilhelm's sister Caroline.
In 1850, at age 14, he was living at Sankt Peders Stræde 134, Copenhagen.
Johannes married Emmely Elise Jacobsen on December 27, 1861, at the Vor Frue Kirk in Copenhagen.
In 1892, Johannes and Emmely lived at Ravnsborg Tværgade 4, Copenhagen. His occupation at the time was listed as Kgl. Stempelpapirforvalter (document verification / approval). His most significant position was head finance minister.
